We have successfully completed our West India Birding Tour — a spectacular journey that began in the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir with its Himalayan specialties, then moved through the rich plains of Punjab, the deserts and grasslands of Rajasthan, the wetlands and salt flats of Gujarat, and concluded beautifully at Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary near Mumbai.

From high-altitude endemics to grassland specialties and wetland rarities — every region delivered incredible sightings and magical birding moments.

We have successfully completed an intensive three-week birding and wildlife holiday across India, covering a remarkable range of habitats—from the Himalayan foothills to central Indian forests, grasslands, and the iconic landscapes of western India.

Velavadar stood out as a global highlight—one of the world’s most important communal harrier roosting sites, where hundreds of harriers gather at dusk, offering an unforgettable wildlife spectacle.

• 2 Leopards
• 19 Jungle Cats
• 5 Wild Dogs (Dholes)
• 2 Sloth Bears

One of the standout moments of our West India trip was a fantastic sighting of the Forest Wagtail, undoubtedly one of the mega species of the tour. Always elusive and never guaranteed, this elegant bird rewarded our efforts with prolonged, close views as it moved gracefully across the forest floor, constantly wagging its long tail. With temperatures dropping, I’m seeing some spec

With temperatures dropping, I’m seeing some species much lower than their usual range. Today I observed few flocks of Yellow-breasted Greenfinches feeding in mustard fields, a species normally found around 1,500 m elevation, now appearing as low as 500 m.
Winter movement is clearly pushing birds down from higher elevations, and some species even move further south from the Himalayan foothills. These seasonal shifts are always fascinating to witness.
